As the years pass, our skin naturally loses fullness. One of the places this quickly becomes most visibly apparent is in the cheeks, which begin to sag and look hollowed out. Assorted dermal fillers are available to treat this loss of fullness, specifically Juvederm. However, there are different types of Juvederm and only one is best specifically for restoring fullness to cheeks— Voluma, also known as Juvéderm® Volume.
Dr. Adriana Lombardi performs Voluma® injections at the Skin Cancer and Cosmetic Surgery Center of NJ, located in our state-of-the-art facility in Edison, NJ. Dr. Lombardi has many years of experience practicing at the highest levels in the field of dermatology. She has performed hundreds of Juvederm Voluma treatments at our offices in NJ. During your consultation, she’ll work with you to determine if Voluma is the best treatment for you.
Voluma is a type of Juvederm injection, meaning it’s made of synthetic hyaluronic acids (HA). Almost all living organisms contain some kind of HA. Because HA draws water, this creates a kind of gel-like substance that is perfect for filling in hollows and restoring facial fullness. Voluma has the heaviest concentration of hyaluronic acid of any Juvéderm® injection, making it right for those deep cheek hollows that require more in order to be wholly filled out once more.
Understanding Juvederm will help you understand Voluma. In addition to being a dermal filler, Juvéderm® is also sometimes used as an injectable for arthritic knees. Those knees have lost their natural cushion over time and Juvederm helps restore it, preventing painful bone-on-bone friction. That same gel-like texture that’s perfect for knee injections is great for restoring facial fullness. Voluma is Juvederm, just at a higher concentration, so it’s administered in the same manner.
During a Voluma procedure you recline comfortably in a chair. You may or may not have a numbing agent applied to your skin. Voluma will be injected into specific areas of your cheeks, restoring their lift and curve.
Treatment takes approximately fifteen to twenty minutes. Afterwards, you can go back to your daily routine immediately.
Yes. Voluma is FDA approved and the decades of research that led to Juvederm mean Voluma, a type of Juvéderm®, is just as safe.
You may feel a tingling at the injection site. Beyond that, discomfort should be minimal. You may experience some slight swelling or bruising after the treatment which will rapidly go away.
Voluma gives you a totally natural look, rather than artificial “chipmunk cheeks.” You’ll see the full effects of your treatment within two weeks.
Take a look at the before and after slides on each of our procedure pages. They’ll give you a good idea of the excellent results our patients see after treatment.
A Voluma treatment will last approximately a year. As Voluma® injections gradually break down over time, your appearance will slowly return to what it was before. Once Voluma has fully broken down, you’ll look just like you did before treatment. To maintain the results of your Voluma treatment it’s important to schedule an appointment in a timely manner.
Volume is fast, safe, and above all, effective. Don’t hesitate to contact us today to schedule a Voluma consultation with Dr. Lombardi!
