Ever looked in the mirror and noticed that your face doesn’t look quite as radiant or firm as it used to be? Sagging skin is an unfortunate part of aging, but fortunately there are treatments to help restore your skin’s youthful glow and overall firmness. You’ve probably heard of treatments like Botox®, which are injected into the facial muscles to relax contracted muscles. But those kinds of treatments don’t do much when volume has literally been lost to the combined effects of aging and gravity. You might especially notice volume loss in places like your smile lines and the line between your nose and mouth. You feel young. What can you do to make sure your outsides match your inside? Consider Juvéderm®.
Dr. Adriana Lombardi performs Juvéderm® injections at the Skin Cancer and Cosmetic Surgery Center of NJ, a state-of-the-art facility conveniently located in Edison, NJ. Dr. Lombardi has many years of experience practicing at the highest levels in the field of dermatology and has performed hundreds of Juvederm treatments. During your consultation at our New Jersey offices, she’ll work with you to determine if Juvederm is the best treatment for you.
Juvéderm® is a dermal filler, which means it’s injected into your skin and fills in the spaces that have been left due to volume loss. Juvederm is made of synthetic hyaluronic acids (HA), which are natural sugars found in almost all living organisms and are a natural component of skin. HA is hydrophilic, meaning it attracts water and binds to it. This creates a kind of gel-like texture that is just right for use as a facial injectable as it restores a natural, full, plump look to skin.
The best way to understand how Juvéderm® works is to understand that HA, Juvederm’s primary component, is also used to inject into arthritic knees. HA helps cushion aging joints, preventing friction. That same cushioning effect is what you will see when Juvéderm® is injected into your face. The HA compound fills in hollows, resulting in a fuller, more youthful appearance.
During a Juvederm procedure you will recline comfortably in a chair while Juvéderm® is injected into specific areas of your face that you and Dr. Lombardi have discussed. Each treatment takes approximately fifteen minutes and there is no downtime afterward. You can immediately resume your regular activities, so long as you don’t touch the injection sites for twenty-four hours. You may also elect to have more than one area treated, which would extend the time of your Juvéderm® session.
Yes. Juvederm is FDA approved and is totally safe. If you don’t like the results of your treatment, an enzyme can be administered to break down the HA acids and restore your previous appearance. Hyaluronic acids, the primary component in Juvederm, have been studied for over seventy years in a multitude of medical settings. There is extensive evidence that Juvéderm® is wholly safe.
Juvéderm® contains a numbing agent, so you’re unlikely to feel much discomfort. You could feel a slight tingle when injected and there might be some mild temporary swelling or bruising after the treatment.
Take a look at the before and after slides on each of our procedure pages. They’ll give you a good idea of the excellent results our patients see after treatment. You should see the full effects of Juvederm treatment within about two weeks.
Juvéderm® lasts approximately a year. You won’t see an immediate, shocking change at any time as the HA compound gradually breaks down over time. When Juvederm has fully broken down, you’ll look exactly like you did before—no better and no worse. It’s best to schedule an appointment for a follow-up treatment before that happens, in order to maintain the results.
Juvederm is fast, effective, and cost-efficient. Whether you need your cheeks, lips, smile lines, or anything else restored to its natural, full appearance, don’t hesitate to contact our NJ office today for a Juvederm consultation!
